I must reluctantly inform you that Vice Admiral Darse E. Crandall retired on September 4, 2024 after serving as the Judge Advocate General of the Navy from 2021 to that date in 2024. https://www.navy.mil/Press-Office/Press-Releases/display-pressreleases/Article/3896742/navy-jag-corps-hosts-change-of-office/
Vice Admiral Crandall was succeeded (briefly) by Vice Admiral Christopher French. Vice Admiral French was quickly fired by President Trump allegedly because he was executing GITMO detainees without benefit of a JAG military tribunal or conviction. French was then himself briefly replaced by Rear Admiral Lia M. Reynolds who stepped in as “ACTING” JAG at GITMO.

This apparently because all detainees awaiting a military tribunal were moved from GITMO to other facilities so as to make room at GITMO for temporary detention of illegal aliens awaiting deportation.

That being said, from some of the sources I’ve been following, it seems that Vice Admiral Crandall may still be active in a less public, more… discreet capacity. Officially retired, sure — but I’ve heard whispers that he’s still involved behind the scenes, especially in operations that aren’t exactly headline material.
You know how things work sometimes — what’s public and what’s actually going on aren’t always the same.
