This development arose following a congressional hearing, where representative Matt Gaetz in questioning the assistant director of cyber security for the FBI, asked him if he had the location of the laptop.
His response was “I do not know the answer”, suggesting that the FBI does not know the whereabouts of the most controversial laptop in history, which ought to be in their care for obvious security reasons.
