The Surge in Militias and Armed Civilian Groups. The landscape across the United States has shifted dramatically as hundreds of militias, composed of diverse factions—Democrats, Republicans, independents, criminal organizations, and cartels—have stockpiled weapons and ammunition. Over the past two years, firearm and ammunition sales have reached unprecedented levels, reflecting a populace preparing for conflict. This surge indicates a growing distrust in governmental structures and a belief that self-defense may soon become a necessity.
Militarization of Federal Agencies. Currently, 76 government agencies in the United States possess the authority to purchase firearms, ammunition, and military equipment. With over 200,000 federalized officers wielding arrest and firearms authority, they now outnumber the entire U.S. Marine Corps, which consists of approximately 180,000 members. This alarming shift has transformed many government agencies into quasi-military outposts, complete with intensive training that has been ongoing since 2018. Notably, since 2020, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) alone has invested over $10 million in arms and ammunition, funded through a “black budget” that has reportedly funneled nearly $100 million in hidden funding from the Biden administration, the CIA, and the Pentagon.
The Structure of U.S. Military Leadership. The United States military is currently led by 44 active-duty four-star officers across various branches: 17 in the Army, three in the Marine Corps, eight in the Navy, 11 in the Air Force, two in the Space Force, and two in the Coast Guard. The Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps, part of the eight federal uniformed services, do not have established four-star positions. The total number of active-duty general and flag officers is strictly capped, with 218 for the Army, 149 for the Navy, 170 for the Air Force, 62 for the Marine Corps, and 21 for the Space Force.
